2019-05-11: Italo Trophy Race

Created: 14 April 2019 Last Updated: 14 April 2019

Due to a lack of Commissaires, we have had to reschedule the Italo Trophy Race to 11 May.  Meanwhile, if you need your fix of racing, check out the Good Friday Crit being run by Hawthorn CC at the teardrop.

There is still 25% of the Volunteer Roster open.  As always, none of this is possible without vols.

The Italo Trophy Race will be on the South Gisborne course with registrations at the Pony Club (see EB).  This is an 8.4k circuit where you will face a 1k climb to the finish and Dutch like winds.  This is a race of attrition and good views

All riders must enter in advance via the EntryBoss link below with entries closing on Thursday morning. The link also contains further race information.

There are no on-the-day entries.

Commissaire Shortages

We depend on Commissaires to run our races.  Without them, this isn't possible.

Historically, Comms were often retired riders.  However we have an increasing trend of current, experienced riders who are Comms.  This is great as not only do they have current knowledge of what is happening the peloton, but the Comms:

  • Pick whichever race(s) they want to assist with - often choosing courses they don't like to race on or during rest weeks.
  • Count as volunteer duty - you get to be in the car
  • Are reimbursed for costs
  • You learn more about racing and tactics - as a Comm part of the job is to anticipate what will happen in the race before it happens.
  • Satisfying sense that you are contributing to keeping racing safe and fair

There is a 2 step process to becoming a Commissaire:

  1. Complete the online test
  2. Be assessed at an actual event by a high-level Commissaire.  We will have a UCI level Commissaire at the 3 Day Tour and Hell of the West who can perform your accreditation.

If you would like to become more involved as a Comm, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and do the test.  We will then discuss the best date available to complete your accreditation.
